MONTUS Workshop Ferrera

Workshop on Master Of New Technologies Using Services

September 5th 7th, 2022

University of Ferrara, Italy

ITC joined the workshop on MONTUS (Master Of New Technologies Using Services) on September 5th – 7th, 2022, in the University of Ferrara. MONTUS comes directly after TORUS Erasmus+ capacity building program (2015-2018) with the ambition to develop research on cloud computing in the environmental sciences and promote its education in the countries of South East Asian partners.

The workshop focused on the use of data analytics in environmental science with the title “Heterogeneous Computing for Environmental Data Analytics”.

During the workshop, the partners from the University of Ferrara presented their research study of image-based crop classification using deep learning in which the model was trained and tested on high-performance GPU. The University of Ferrara researchers also presented the advantages of using GPU in data analytics and introduced alternative hardware to GPU, so-called FPGA, Field Programming Gate Arrays, which is a powered efficient form of computing device that produces a close result and performance compared to the ones of GPU.

The workshop also summarized the achievements produced by all partners from the universities in Asia and Europe. One of which is the introduction of the new master's program of civil engineering at Vietnam National University. All other partners from the rest of the universities then presented their feedback to the project by recording videos, each expressing their achieved results, scientific impacts of the project, and quality of cooperation between all parties throughout the end of the project.

During the last session of this workshop, the implementation of the cloud-based high-performance computing platform at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia was introduced as well. The platform was tested successfully by all partners during the workshop. An agreement on using the platform was discussed and expected to be produced later before the end of the project.

Participants from ITC during this workshop:

1.   Mr. LAY Heng, head of the department of Information and Communication Engineering

2.   Mr. Heng Rathpisey, lecturer in the department of information and communications engineering
